One aspect of the Lord Jesus Christ that no religious leader can ever hope to claim is that of His eternal and omnipotent power.
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”—Revelation 1:8
This word, Almighty is the same word used throughout the Old and New Testaments to describe the omnipotence of God—all power. In fact, the Lord reminded His disciples just before He ascended to Heaven, “All power is given unto me….”
And nowhere is His power more clearly seen than in His bodily resurrection from the dead the third day, just as He promised.
“Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”—John 10:17–18
Make no mistake dear friends, Jesus Christ was fully aware of what He had come to do, and fully confident in how He would rise again from the dead.
“And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words,”—Luke 24:4–8
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”—1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Hallelujah! There is no tomb to visit, no memorial upon which to lay flowers. He is alive by His mighty power. And because He lives:
“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”—1 Corinthians 15:54c–57
I would submit to you today that because of His resurrection, because of His omnipotent power, He then is able to save me and keep me.
“Wherefore he is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him”—Hebrews 7:25a
“For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”—2 Timothy 1:12
“And I give unto them eternal life; they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”—John 10:28
This is the Jesus I love and serve. He is all powerful—nothing is impossible for Him. More about Jesus I would learn—more of His power.
