The Cycle from Bondage to Freedom and Back

The Cycle from Bondage to Freedom and Back

Christians Must Let Their Voice Be Heard in Our Great Nation

As our nation is engaged in a time of getting ready to once again vote for our nation’s leader, it is important to remind ourselves what a blessed privilege it is to be able to let our voices be heard. We have the honor and the biblical responsibility to stand for what the Scriptures command. What an honor and delight to be able to raise a voice for biblical righteousness.

I was once with a congressman who gave me some important words to remember. We were discussing his upcoming election when, from memory, he gave me some wonderful words of wisdom. He said, “David, never forget that in the course of every nation we will go from bondage to freedom, and back to bondage, if we are not vigilant to lift our voices for righteousness:
For deep bondage in a nation produces great faith.
Great faith produces great courage.
Great courage
produces great freedom.
Great freedom
produces great abundance.
Great abundance
produces great apathy.
Great apathy
produces great dependence.
Great dependence produces great bondage.”

Four biblical assurances that can help preserve our cherished freedoms are:

1. Remember, As Christians, We Can Trust in God to Supply Our Needs

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:26

It is much easier to trust God when times are prosperous and all needs are met, but when we stretch our faith and accept His promise when times are bad; that is when mighty works of God will occur. Whether you’re unemployed or possibly at the brink of financial despair, God will provide. The apostle Paul states, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”(Philippians 4:19). Call on this promise today through the power of Christ Jesus. Accept the peace that He has to offer. Stop trying to figure out how you will fix every problem in your life and rest in the arms of the Father. He never fails!

2. Be Faithful to Witness for Christ and Be Active in Your Church

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

Sharing the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ is something that every Christian is commanded to do. What a privilege it is that here in America we have the liberty to share our faith!

3. Work Hard and Help Others

“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

We live in a selfish society. The cutthroat mentality that will do anything to get ahead has permeated the collective conscious of many in our world today. A sharp contrast is given from the Word of God regarding how His people should act. All work should be done to honor God and to bring glory to His name. Self-promotion should be void in the life of a believer. True satisfaction in life will come out of accepting the purpose God has given you and doing everything in your power to help build up others. Have you ever met a truly happy selfish person? It’s simply not possible to be self-absorbed and happy. We were not created to live that way. Embrace God’s plan and peace—contentment and joy will follow.

4. Put Your Money Where Your Heart Is

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

People claim to care about a lot of different things, but the best way to truly see what matters most is to see what they are willing to invest their time and financial resource in.

Many might say they care about the souls of the lost and want to see their city reached for Christ, but they don’t faithfully give to their local church. Some might see the way America is changing and want to fight back to defend their Christian liberties so that their children and grandchildren can experience the same America that they had the privilege of experiencing, but they don’t pray for their nation or support the efforts others are making.

I urge you to be an active Christian. Far too many believers are on the sideline and the battle is far too important to lose.
