Have you ever tried to use a dull knife to cut something? The harder you try the more unsuccessful you become. In simple terms, the sharper the blade, the more effective the knife. As I think of soulwinning, I believe every soulwinner needs to sharpen his ministry skills in order to be more effective in witnessing. Consider three practices we should implement into our daily lives.
1. Claim the Promise of Obtaining Godly Wisdom. In James 1:5 the Bible says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Every situation is different and every person has a unique set of circumstances. Therefore, we need wisdom in knowing how to respond to people’s questions. Isaiah 50:4 says, “The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”
2. Consider who the Author of Your Fear is. I am sure you have experienced the emotion of fear when God impresses upon you to share your faith. At these moments, we need to remember what the Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The spirit of fear is not from God. He wants us to have hearts of faith, believing that He wants to do a great work through us.
3. Commit Yourself to Reach One. I love the story of Andrew meeting Jesus. The Bible relates the story in John 1:40–41, “One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.” I encourage you to ask God to allow you to reach one person with the Gospel in the next thirty days. For this challenge to become a reality you must set aside extra time to go soulwinning with your church family, carry Gospel tracts with you every day, and stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Obey His promptings in your life! If we follow these helps, I believe we can see many more people come to Christ.
