As we celebrate Mother’s Day this year, many of our hearts and minds are filled with wonderful thoughts and memories of our own mother. The Bible is filled with examples of great mothers: Hannah, Elisabeth, Mary, the Shunamite woman, Eunice and Jochebed. I am thankful for each of these ladies as well.
Abraham Lincoln said, “I remember my mother’s prayers, and they have followed me; they have clung to me all my life. All that I am and hope to be I owe to my angel mother.” This world would never have known the ministries of Hudson Taylor, John Wesley, and Charles Wesley except they had praying mothers.
Not only are we thankful for the prayers of mothers, but also for the instruction and correction of mothers. Moms teach their children by example and exhortation. They invest their time and effort in seeking to produce godly children. An old Spanish proverb says, “An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy.”
What power each mother has in the lives of her children! Each and every mother should take care to wield her influence for the Lord and right. Be careful of both your words and actions. Guard your attitudes and amusements. Be sure to walk with the Lord daily in His Word and prayer.
I applaud mothers who have used their motherhood opportunity to turn their children’s hearts to the Lord. I appreciate all the tears and travail that go into the duties of motherhood. May God bless each and every one of you.
