But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 1 Peter 2:9
I believe that every church should have organized soulwinning opportunities for its members to participate in. It is an excellent way to provide hands-on training for new or inexperienced soulwinners.
This weekly (or more often) soulwinning opportunity is an excellent time to deliver a short message that both challenges soulwinners and teaches them how to be more effective.
The following is a recap of a message I gave at one of our soulwinning meetings regarding the holy work of soulwinning.
The book of First Peter has a strong emphasis on God’s people being holy in the midst of a crooked and perverse society. The Lord’s desire is that we live and represent Him as “an holy nation.”
Holiness implies something or someone who is uniquely set apart spiritually, morally, and characteristically in their attitude, appearance, and actions.
The theme of the entire book of Leviticus is holiness.
The priesthood was to be holy; the offerings were to be holy; the sanctuary was to be holy; God’s name is holy; the garments of the priest were to be holy; the tithe is holy.
As we consider the work of soulwinning, it too should be understood as holy work.
I. We Have Been Given a Holy Sending
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8
The Great Commission is a holy sending by the Lord to go into the entire world with the Gospel.
II. We Are to Use the Holy Scriptures
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Peter 1:22-23
III. We Have the Holy Spirit
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. John 16:7-11
IV. We Are to Have Holy Speech
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. Acts 17:2-3
Notice that Paul followed the same pattern wherever he went. Acts 17:2-3, says as his manner was, he reasoned, opened, alleged, and preached.
V. We Are Privileged with Holy Success
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16
The context of the promise for holy success assumes that because we are maintaining a walk with the Lord (abiding in Christ), we will be blessed with fruit that will remain.
If we desire to be soulwinners that are blessed of the Lord, we must always be sure that we approach soulwinning with holy practices and His holy power.
