For 30 years I have prayed that someone would write a full biography of Missionary Bob Hughes. It was through this man that many missionaries, including myself, surrendered to go to the mission field. I believe the best way to introduce this book is by sharing the following email I sent to Bro. Roark after receiving a copy of the book:
Dear Brother Roark,
I received your email with the book attached to it early this morning before church. I printed about 20 pages and read them: I then realized I could not stop even though it was Sunday. My son printed the rest of the pages and throughout the day I read it whenever I could find time. I had about three hours of time after church tonight to read the rest of it and just finished. It's 1:00 am Monday morning here.
It’s hard to express my gratitude to you properly as this has been a dream of mine for so many years. I never thought a book this well written and researched would ever be done on the life of Bob Hughes. I thought you did a very good job of being objective and yet telling his story in a way that would be a blessing to Christians. I learned many details about his life I had not known. More importantly, it helped me see the heart of Bob Hughes in a way only a biography like this could do. I believe your book will stand the test of time and will be read for generations to come. I knew very little of the details about his last days in the hospital. The story of Ray Young, who was a friend of mine in college, was touching as was the account of Brother Hughes’ last moments. I have to admit I couldn't hold back the tears.
I'm going to go to bed but I wanted to write and let you know how thankful I am for the countless hours you spent on this project.
God bless,
Rick Martin
