Who doesn’t like a good deal? My girls are great shoppers, and they often find incredible deals. When they return from shopping, they cannot wait to tell me what they paid for an item. The story is then repeated to family members, friends, and acquaintances. They just can’t wait to share the good news! My friend, Carla, is the same way. She always calls me to let me in on the sales she comes across while shopping. (Thanks, Carla—keep it up!) I, too, like deals. When someone asks me if I’m wearing a new skirt, I am quick to add to my answer, “…and I only paid $6 for it!” Bottom line—women are excited to tell everyone about a good bargain.
If only we would be that excited to tell everyone about the best deal we ever received. It costs us absolutely nothing, yet we receive eternal life with Jesus our Lord and a mansion in an incredible place called Heaven. It doesn’t get any better than that! The Bible says we exchange our filthy rags for His righteousness! What a deal!
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.—Isaiah 64:6
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.—Philippians 3:9
Just as we tell others about the deal we got at Target, let’s be equally excited and eager to tell others about the free gift of salvation! Just as we would want our friends to hurry so they don’t miss out on a great bargain opportunity, we must see the urgency to tell others about the good news of the gospel. We never know if the next time we present the gospel will be our last time to do so.
And may we always remember to thank the Lord for giving us the ultimate gift—paying the price of our salvation!
