Silk Requires Sacrifice

Profile picture for user Valerie Creed
By Valerie Creed, Saturday, November 7, 2020
The Creator desires the best for each of His children. For centuries, royal families had silk as a luxurious commodity in their wardrobes.

Being a Flight 93 Christian

Profile picture for user Dr. Mike Edwards
By Dr. Mike Edwards, Monday, June 3, 2019

On the morning of September 11, 2001, United Flight 93 took off from Newark’s Liberty International Airport bound for San Francisco. There were forty-four people on board, all of whom would lose their lives that day. Four terrorists took over the plane with the intention of flying it to the Washington DC area and crashing it into one of our government buildings or memorials. They very probably would have succeeded, except for the bravery of the passengers and crew onboard that day.

Let Us Never Forget

Remembering Those Who Paid the Ultimate Price
I’m thankful for Memorial Day. First, I’m thankful for the unspeakably precious sacrifices men and women have made for our freedom. Second, I’m thankful that we have set aside a day to honor and commemorate these sacrifices. We so easily forget what is truly important in life—especially that which others have given us.

What Is the Cross?

Profile picture for user Kurt Skelly
By Kurt Skelly, Wednesday, October 9, 2013
We Must Never Forget the Meaning of the Cross
To so many, the cross has become almost devoid of meaning. The average entertainer or sports celebrity often dons the cross as a gaudy piece of jewelry. Its image is amazingly prominent in society despite our government’s efforts to eradicate it. But its meaning has never been more obscured from the average man’s thinking. So what is the cross?

You Have a Choice

Investing Your Life for Eternity
We have our choice. We may live for self and take good care of our lives (not exposing them to danger, not making sacrifices, looking out for our own interests,) and we may prosper in the world. People will commend our good sense and congratulate us on our success.

Qualities that Are Necessary in a Church Planter
Although there is no specific stereotype of a church planter, there are some qualities that are absolutely necessary. One of those qualities is the ability to be flexible. There will be many last minute changes as well as situations that require the ability to be adaptable.

Soggy Cereal

Demonstrating Your Love for God
I despise soggy cereal! When I was a kid, there was a grandmotherly woman named Mrs. Shelton who would sometimes care for us if my parents were out of town. She had a very effective way of getting us out of bed in the morning.

5 Lessons from a Remarkable Gift
In Mark 14 we find a number of wonderful lessons from the lives of everyday people—people like you and me. The chapter begins with the house of Simon (once a leper) and a woman who came to the Lord Jesus and broke open an alabaster box filled with spikenard and poured it on Jesus’ head.

4 Traits of a Close Friend
Who could you call at midnight? While I was studying Luke chapter eleven, I could not miss the emphasis Jesus put on the illustration of a friend.

The story of Bill Borden will touch your heart and challenge you. I had read stories about him and had even given illustrations about him, but I had never read his full biography.
