Joni Erickson Tada had a terrible
accident that left her a quadriplegic. In spite of her physical limitations she became an
accomplished author and artist. Over 25 years ago she married her
husband, Ken. For her wedding she had planned to come down the center
aisle in her motorized wheel chair. Just before her grand entrance she
noticed two distressing problems. First, she had rolled over her
beautiful gown and made a big grease spot and tear in it. Then, the flowers
in her lap had slipped and had lodged between her leg and the
chair.
On June 28,
2008, Asia LeeShawn Ferguson went over two fences and entered a restricted area in Six Flags Over Georgia. The seventeen-year-old was hit and killed by the Batman roller coaster. It is not known why Ferguson climbed the fences; and his father said, “Nobody knows but my son and the Lord.”
Many people try to climb the fences their authority has placed around them, and they enter forbidden territory. It should not be a surprise to them when they get hurt.
William McPherson was the superintendent for a stone quarry when a blast severely injured him. He lost his eyesight and both hands in the explosion. He was determined to read the Bible, and learned to read raised letters with the tip of his tongue. It is said that he read through the Bible four times in this manner.

The Bible is like a telescope. If a man looks through his telescope he
sees worlds beyond; but if he looks at his telescope, he does not see
anything but that. The Bible is a thing to be looked through to see
that which is beyond; but most people only look at it and so they see
only the letter of the law.

Mosheim (Lutheran): Before the rise of Luther and Calvin, there lay secreted in
almost all the countries of Europe persons who adhered tenaciously to the

A father was talking to his oldest son about the boy’s upcoming
baptism. Wanting him to understand the significance of the event, he
took great care to communicate with him. While they were talking, the boy’s younger brother, a little four-year-old, left the room. He
seemed visibly upset so teh father followed him to see what was
wrong. Tearfully, the little guy confessed, “I want to be alphabetized
with my brother.”
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter agreed, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.
