For 30 years I have prayed that someone would write a full biography of Missionary Bob Hughes. It was through this man that many missionaries, including myself, surrendered to go to the mission field. I believe the best way to introduce this book is by sharing the following email I sent to Bro. Roark after receiving a copy of the book.

Recently, I began to feel pain and pressure in my stomach and chest, and I ended up in the emergency room. The doctor came to my bed and told me that I had an aortic dissection and an aortic aneurysm. My response was, “Are you kidding?” He wasn’t joking.

Servant leadership is the direct opposite of the world’s model of leadership. The world says leadership gives me the right to be served; but Christ’s example shows that leadership gives me the opportunity to serve others.

It is only as we develop others around us that we permanently succeed. In his final letter to Timothy, Paul commanded the young pastor to make disciples. Timothy was to teach the sacred truths he had learned to the next generation. More importantly, Timothy had to teach in a way that could be repeated. His disciples would need to make their own disciples. We call this process biblical discipleship.

Relationship is the first key to discipleship. This concept includes several aspects. The discipler must have a strong relationship with the Lord if he desires spiritual growth in his disciple. In addition, he must cultivate trust with the new convert. A discipler must commit time and energy to build the relationship needed to be effective as a discipler.

One life is of priceless value to God, and yours is that life! So, let’s determine to give God every day of our life until our dying day. Here are four steps to take to help

I highly recommend that a pastor visit the mission field every year or at least every couple of years. Let me share with you some of the benefits that come out of visits to the field.

I think most of us would have to admit that last year was in some ways a disappointing one. I certainly do not mean to be a discouragement with this article, and I am not discouraged as I write it. In fact, in many ways I think we are living and ministering in one of the greatest periods of Church history.
